Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support an international oil and gas group with diversified operations in Azerbaijan and across the region.
The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-quality legal support across the group’s business units, manage legal risks, advise management on complex legal and commercial matters, and ensure compliance with applicable Azerbaijani laws, international standards, internal policies and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities
Corporate & Commercial Legal Support
• Provide legal advice to management and business units on day-to-day operations and strategic projects.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including:
o supply and distribution agreements;
o service agreements;
o procurement contracts;
o logistics and transportation agreements;
o lease agreements;
o construction and maintenance contracts;
o IT outsourcing and software/service agreements;
o confidentiality agreements and memoranda of understanding.
• Support corporate governance matters, including board/shareholder documentation, powers of attorney, internal approvals and corporate recordkeeping.
• Advise on legal structuring of transactions, new business initiatives and intercompany arrangements.
Requirements :
Required Qualifications
• Law degree from a recognized university.
• Minimum 7–10 years of legal experience, preferably in an international company, oil and gas group, law firm or major industrial/commercial organization.
• Strong knowledge of Azerbaijani civil, commercial, corporate, labor and regulatory law.
• Experience in oil and gas, energy, retail, production/manufacturing, IT contracts or regulated industries is highly desirable.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Strong understanding of compliance, corporate governance and risk management.
• Fluency in Azerbaijani and English is required; Russian is an advantage.
• Excellent legal drafting, analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and provide practical business-oriented legal advice.
Preferred Experience
• Experience working in an international oil and gas company or multinational group.
• Familiarity with upstream operations, PSAs, oilfield services and regulatory matters.
• Experience supporting fuel retail, lubricants production or industrial manufacturing.
• Experience with IT outsourcing, software licensing, cybersecurity or data protection matters.
• Experience coordinating external counsel and managing litigation/arbitration matters.
• Understanding of sanctions, anti-corruption, competition law and international compliance frameworks.
